Meet the newest Dodger: Bobby Abreu.
Justin Sellers is dropped to Triple A to make room for Abreu to debut against the Cubs today.
He’s a veteran with a .293 lifetime batting average who won’t hit more than 10 homeruns and will most definitely platoon in left field (and possibly 1st for Loney).
The Dodgers have a lot of young guys, so having a 38 year old in the club-house can’t be a bad thing, though he has been struggling with the bat lately. He was batting .208 when he was cut by the Angels.
The flip side is if Adam Kennedy should have been sent down instead of Justin Sellers. Sellers is only 26 and could use some big-league at-bats to see how he grows. Kennedy on the other hand, is 36 and not getting much better as his batting averaged has consistently dropped since 2009, from .289 to .234 in 2011.
