Van Who!?… Van 3-Run-Jack!!
Dodgers sweep Cards on a 6-5 victory despite Billingsley’s iffy start—The win came in large part due to the 7th inning 3-run, go ahead, pinch-hit homerun* by Scott Van Slyke, who was called up just 10 days ago for (name one of the 8 hurt Dodgers and insert here). It was his first career homerun and one of 14 hits the Dodgers posted on the early Sunday evening. Elian Herrera, James Loney, Andre Ethier, and Bobby Abreu all had a multi-hit game.
The Dodgers continue to add to the Major League best 28-13 record, and frankly I don’t think anybody knows how exactly they’re doing it (especially with the slew of injuries they’ve endured, and namely, that of Matt Kemp’s). But somehow, they keep doing it…
The Dodgers will try to add a few more wins in a 3-game series in Arizona and are then back for 7 against the Astros and the Brewers (which is when Matt Kemp is due back).
*Props to Mattingley, too, for letting him swing ona 3-0 count!
